Chickadee — Account & Data Deletion

Delete your account in the app (recommended)

1. Open the app and tap Profile (bottom navigation bar, rightmost icon).
2. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the Profile screen.
3. Scroll down to the Account section and tap Delete My Account.
4. Confirm the deletion request in the dialog that appears.

This disables your account and logs you out immediately.

Delete your account without the app (email request)

If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion by email. Send an email from the address associated with your Chickadee account to: [email protected]

Subject: Account Deletion Request
Include: (1) your account email, (2) your Chickadee username (if known), (3) "Please delete my account".

We may ask you to verify ownership of the account before processing the request.

Restore window (1 month)

Chickadee uses a 1-month restore window after a deletion request. During this time your account remains deactivated and cannot be used, but it may be restored (where available) to prevent accidental loss.

• Immediately: account access is disabled and active sessions are revoked.
• Up to 1 month: restoration may be requested (where supported).
• After 1 month: personal identifiers are anonymized.

What happens after the restore window (anonymization)

After the 1-month restore window ends, Chickadee anonymizes personal identifiers and replaces them with a generic identity, such as deleted_user_XXXX. This allows the service to preserve integrity of shared records without keeping your identity.

• Anonymized identifiers: email, username, name/surname, and profile details (display name, bio, avatar).
• Revoked access: sessions are revoked and device tokens are disabled to stop notifications.
• Shared records preserved (anonymized): messages you sent, ratings you gave, and activity history may remain for integrity and safety, but will no longer be linked to your real identity and may appear under "Deleted User".
• Active items handled: pending requests or active items may be closed/cancelled to protect other users.

Chat retention (90 days for soft-deleted messages)

Chickadee may store chat message content in encrypted form. When messages are marked as deleted (soft-deleted), an automated cleanup process permanently removes them after a retention period.

• Soft-delete: messages can be marked deleted (for example, when a conversation is cleared).
• Permanent deletion: soft-deleted chat messages are permanently deleted after 90 days.

This retention period helps reliability and abuse investigations while limiting long-term storage of deleted content.

Backups & legal retention

Backups may persist for a limited time and be overwritten on a regular cycle. Some records may be retained if required by applicable law.
